I conducted a user research study for my class, User Research for UX, at UC Berkeley Extension.

We were tasked to pick a website and conduct user testing and analyze its results. I chose to do YouTube and interviewed 5 users of their experiences and opinions.

I wrote a script and asked them questions about their experience. All of the users were of a similar age demographic - 20-35 years of age - and all were experienced users of the platform. Over Zoom, I asked them their feelings and opinions of the platform and gained valuable insight. After I recorded their responses, I asked them to do some tasks to evaluate YouTube’s accessibility and information architecture. Some tasks were easier than others, but I was most surprised to learn that 4 out of 5 users didn’t use most of YouTube’s features. They thought little of features such as creating playlists on YouTube because they didn’t see a reason to.

The project concluded with needing to conduct more surveys, eye-tracking and diary reports, to better evaluate YouTube’s pain points.
